It’s really pretty simple. You start with a map of the world and a handful of those little red, blue, and green pushpins. Next, you stick a pin in each of your favorite golf destinations. Now keep in mind, there’s a strategy to this. You want to choose a variety of geographies so you can play comfortably year round—an essential element for the Annual Club Championship that will be played at a different course every year and hosted by one of my buddies from the tour. Now let’s see, to start with St. Andrews is my sentimental favorite. Then I stick a pin in Bandon Dunes, Southern Pines—naturally, and Kapalua on Maui—my wife’s favorite.
Now once you’ve worked your way through about 30 or so pins it’s time for step two, lodging.. It may not seem like it, but this is a key component. It’s all about proximity. You want to be close enough to the courses you’re playing, but far enough away to disconnect and relax. A big plasma screen TV is also a big help in the relaxation department. And since I’m just spit-ballin’ here, why not throw in a stocked fridge, concierge service, an in-house massage from a nearby spa and a Tour bag full of the latest equipment for you to demo while in residence.
That should just about do it. Oh wait, knowing my membership deposit is backed by the real estate portfolio would also be nice. Knowing my money is secure in the Club that is providing me and my family a good time on the courses of my dreams would sure put a little added oomph into my backswing.
Boy, wouldn’t it be nice if there were a club like that. Allow me to personally invite you to join us in The Markers.
Sincerely,
