(ST. GEORGE, UTAH) – July 28, 2006 –
For those who love the game of golf, there’s nothing more exhilarating than teeing off with a golf idol, gleaning wisdom from those who have played the most awe-inspiring opponents and the toughest courses. Members of The Markers, the first and only residence club created exclusively for devout golfers and their families, can live out their fantasy of playing golf among the world’s best with the advent of The Markers’ Player’s Council. Comprised of a select group of personalities and players from the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours, the Player’s Council offers tour-level insights for every Markers member through a variety of member-only events, clinics, and one-on-one interaction.
“The Player’s Council consists of an elite group of business – and golf-minded professionals whose expertise will help The Markers better serve its members by anticipating their golf fantasies and helping to fulfill them,” said Player’s Council Chairman, Bruce Summerhays. “Members receive personal contact with some of the world’s most admired and experienced golfers, enabling them to gain an unparalleled perspective on the game—this is a completely unique concept.”
During select club events, members have exclusive access to PGA-worthy venues with one-on-one interaction with Player’s Council members. In addition, the Player’s Council will offer guidance to The Markers executives regarding new insight into making the club the ultimate golf experience. Through this interaction, The Markers provides its members with the most compelling and comprehensive golf experience available.
“The Markers is the only residence club to offer members the opportunity to interact personally with golf’s elite,” said Donna Caponi, Hall-of-Fame LPGA golfer and member of the Player’s Council. “I am excited to impart my passion for the sport and spread my knowledge of the game to Markers’ club members.”
Led by Bruce Summerhays of The Champions Tour, The Markers’ Players Council is a revered list of some of golf’s up-and-coming tour players as well as esteemed retirees. The current Player’s Council roster includes several World Golf Hall-of-Famers including Billy Casper and Donna Caponi and stellar newcomers such as Parker McLaughlin and Matt Weibring, all providing their own unique perspective and valuable insight.
“Everyone involved in The Markers is incredibly passionate about making this unique concept come to life,” said Hall-of-Famer Billy Casper. “I am thrilled to be involved in a project that elicits such excitement and enthusiasm among both club members and the golf elite.”
The Markers Players Council:
Bruce Summerhays
Since joining the PGA Champions Tour in 1994, Summerhays has played in more than 200 events, consistently finishing in the top 30 on the money list and garnering three wins. In 2004, at 60 years, six months and 28 days old, he became the eighth oldest winner in Champions Tour history, rallying from six strokes back for victory, thanks to a final-round 64, his best round in more than four years. Summerhays is a former head coach at Stanford and golf professional at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.
Billy Casper
During his professional career, Billy Casper won national titles on three continents and is credited with more than 60 professional tournament championships, 51 of which were won on the PGA Tour. Billy was selected eight times as a member of the United States Ryder Cup Team, and was Ryder Cup Team captain in 1979. He is a five-time Vardon Trophy winner, an honor awarded each year to the professional golfer with the lowest scoring average on the PGA Tour. Casper was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978 and the PGA Hall of Fame in 1982, and won nine titles on the Senior PGA Tour. Casper and his family own a Partner Membership in The Markers.

In 2000, he went all 54 holes of the EMC Kaanapali Classic without making a bogey and finished second to Hale Irwin by four strokes. Inman then won for a third straight year at the SBC Senior Classic, becoming only the fifth player in Champions Tour history to three-peat in an event. Inman previously worked as a Ping sales representative and was a member of the PGA Tour Radio Network broadcast crew in 1997.
John Harris
John Harris originally turned pro in 1976, but left the Champions Tour after a few years. Regaining his amateur status in 1983, Harris dominated the amateur circuit, winning four Minnesota titles, five mid-amateur titles and the 1993 U.S. Amateur at age 41. Harris then joined the Champions Tour in 2002 at the age of 50. In 2004 Harris had four finishes in the top 10, and in 2005 he had two top 5 finishes and earned more than $480,000. Most recently, Harris won the Commerce Bank Championship with a purse of $1.5 million.

In 1981, Caponi won five titles, including her fourth major championship, and became the third player ever to cross the $1 million mark in career winnings. Today, Caponi is a commentator for NBC, TBS and Australian TV and an analyst for The Golf Channel.
David Marr
David Marr III serves as the primary interviewer for The Golf Channel’s Champions Tour coverage and hosts Champions Tour Learning Center, a weekly, 30-minute show dedicated to game improvement that features a variety of players currently competing on the Champions Tour. He made his debut with The Golf Channel as its Golf Central Updates anchor, and also could be seen anchoring Golf Central and filing special reports during the network’s coverage of the four major championships. I am excited to say that I’m part of the next major movement in golf.”
